Collection Method Description

We map the stratigraphic units in the subsurface primarily based upon geophysical well log characteristics in feet of the top and bottom of geologic formations. The top and bottom depths are based on the measured depth below the measuring datum for the geophysical well log, typically the kelly bushing or rig floor.

Quality Control Level

Quality Assurance Description

QAQC checks are performed by TWDB BRACS staff to ensure all well header information is accurately captured. We also receive feedback from internal and external users regarding misplotted wells. Location checks are also performed on wells that appear misplaced. For a typical BRACS study, we prepare top and bottom elevation rasters for the formations of interest using stratigraphic picks. The interpolated elevation rasters are reviewed within the context of regional geological structure and depositional environments for irregularities. Anomalies that resulted from erroneous well locations or stratigraphic picks are updated.
